Many Connecticut residents who are military veterans may not be aware of the benefits they might be entitled to. Much is dependent on each veteran's need for medical treatment or home health care. Unfortunately, the government has not done an exceptionally good job letting those who are eligible for veterans' benefits about how they can go about getting them. And even when people do apply for benefits properly, governmental mistakes can turn the process into a nightmare.

Such is the case with a retired man who was a 10-year veteran of the Army. The man lives off payments from Social Security and his military pension. However, in the span of the last few years, the man has been entered into the VA system as deceased. And it has happened not just once, but four times.

Every time this happens, the man is cut off from receiving his benefits because he would not be eligible for his pension if he were no longer living. He is, of course, very much alive. He is now at risk of losing his house because his income has been disrupted. The VA also wants him to repay the benefits that they say he has improperly collected.

While this case involves the man's military pension, a similar issue could certainly come up when someone is trying to obtain military benefits for health care issues. It is often best to consult with an attorney who has experience in dealing with the VA and with veterans' issues and can work to get people the compensation to which they are entitled.
